چکیده

Climate change poses a significant risk to food security. Recent floods in Pakistan could serve as an example. In the current climate scenario, there is dire need develop methods that increase crop productivity and reduce threat of insecurity areas with low production. A detailed field experiment was conducted check effects intercropping straw mulching under conventional tillage (CT) no (NT) systems on soil health indicators cotton at experimental area Khwaja Fareed University Engineering Information Technology (KFUEIT), Rahim Yar Khan, Pakistan. The main plot treatments comprised CT NT. subplot were sole (C1), + mung-bean (C2), (C3) (C4) CT, while (N1), (N2), (N3) (N4) NT treatments. Overall, increased plant height by 18.4 %, chlorophyll b contents 28.2 21.1%, respectively, mean boll weight 17.9%, seed yield 20.9% compared ( P < 0.05). interaction 7.0% 21.8% comparison mulching. Similarly, 41.9 28.5%, 26.9%, 23.0% Intercropping decreased without but it Further, physicochemical properties NT, which contributed increasing productivity. We concluded might be promising practice for enhancing yield, productivity, low-productivity areas.

Factors Affecting Intercropping and Conservation Tillage Practices in Eeastern Ethiopia

In order to combat adverse effects of farmland degradation it is necessary for farmers to adopt sustainable land management and conservation strategies like intercropping and conservation tillage. However, efforts to adopt these strategies are very minimal in Ethiopia. In an attempt to address the objectives of examining factors affecting use of intercropping and conservation tillage practices,...

The role of conservation agriculture in sustainable agriculture.

The paper focuses on conservation agriculture (CA), defined as minimal soil disturbance (no-till, NT) and permanent soil cover (mulch) combined with rotations, as a more sustainable cultivation system for the future. Cultivation and tillage play an important role in agriculture. The benefits of tillage in agriculture are explored before introducing conservation tillage (CT), a practice that was...

Long-term effects of poultry litter and conservation tillage on crop yields and soil phosphorus in cotton–cotton–corn rotation

Long-term field experiments are needed to fully realize positive and negative impacts of conservation tillage and poultry litter application. A study was initiated on a Decatur silt loam soil at the Tennessee Valley Research and Extension Center, Belle Mina, AL, USA in 1996 to evaluate cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) performance with long-term poultry litter (PL) application under different till...

Tillage and soil quality Tillage practices for sustainable agriculture and environmental quality in different agroecosystems

For centuries tillage has been used to prepare suitable seedbed to grow crops, and to control weeds and incorporate fertilizers, pesticides, manures and other amendments. In early years conversion of native ecosystems by tillage helped to unlock nutrients stored in soil organic matter, and thus `mine' naturally fertile soils to grow crops with minimum inputs for the growing population. However,...
